Good Enough For Nietzsche?
The last line in the Nietzsche video, The Myth of Eternal Recurrence resonated most with me. The sufficiency of this- Earth. I wonder if this is meant to make us think about what would happen if we were told that there was nothing more than this life? No heaven, no transcendent plane, no reward for a life well-lived. Would we despair? Would we feel like our time had been wasted? Would This be good enough? Or is the idea of an afterlife what drives most people to lead good lives? Why isn’t the good life reward in itself? If we had to live the same life over and over again would that be heaven or hell? If this theory of Eternal Recurrence is valid we should all be doing our best to create our heaven during this life to make the next one equally pleasant. Or perhaps if this theory is dissected more we could ask, if this myth of Eternal Recurrence has always been the case then maybe this is not the first time we have been through the cycle and the life we are living is one that has already been lived and all of our decisions are futile because the course of our life has already been determined because it has already happened before. I wonder if this theory has any relation to the phenomenon of Life Flashing Before Your Eyes during near-death experiences…
